    Jean-Georges WILLE (1715 - 1808)
    A French painter and engraver, of German birth, he mainly practiced his art in France. From childhood, he had a strong inclination for drawing and his first master was a painter named Luhn.
    He was received by Nicolas de Largillière, whose paintings he painted several copies of.
    He also met Hyacinthe Rigaud, who encouraged him to take up copper engraving.
    The most famous French painters entrusted him with their works to engrave.

    Wille was an engraver at the Court of Kings Frederick II, Frederick V of Denmark and especially Louis XV.
    Naturalized French in 1758, he was elected to the Royal Academy of Paintings and Sculptures in 1761.
    Napoleon I named him Knight of the Legion of Honor and the Institut de France admitted him to the number of its members.
