This painting is signed by the artist Rudolf Weisse on the lower right: Weisse was born in Aussig (today Usti, in the Czech Republic), on the banks of the Elbe.
He continued his studies at the Vienna Academy from 1876 to 1880, then, like his fellow artists (Ludwig Deutsch and Rudolf Ernst among others), he settled in Paris.
There he gained a reputation as an orientalist painter and began exhibiting regularly at the Salon from 1889, also participating in the Exposition Universelle until 1927. He would be awarded a gold medal in 1889
