Large oil on canvas signed H.Callot*, depicting a seascape with sailboats in a harbor, most likely in Belgium, presented at the 1913** Ghent World's Fair, in its original early 20th century frame. This oil painting is in good condition. It is signed lower right and bears a label from the 1913 Ghent Exhibition on the back. The frame is damaged. Please note: a small hole in the canvas on the left side, a few cracks, visible lines on the canvas (slightly relaxed), accidents and missing parts on the frame, please look at the photos. *Henri Callot (1875-1956): (Ec fr.). Student of Jules Lefebvre and Tony Robert-Fleury. Exhibited at the Salon des Artistes français until 1936; sociétaire hors-concours; gold medal in 1920; from 1937 to 1940, he appeared at the Salon de la Nationale. He is cited for his nudes and landscapes. Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur. Artist highly rated on ArtPrice. ** The phenomenon of world exhibitions had a long genesis, but officially appeared in London in 1851 with the Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations. This was the first in a long series that continued until the First World War, and then became a formula for international success. Prior to 1913, Antwerp, Brussels and Liège had already taken on the role of host city. From April 26 to November 3, 1913, it was Ghent's turn to welcome the world.
