Jules Noel, Oil On Panel Fishing Boat Signed
(1810 - 1881)
Delightful oil on panel representing a marine scene, a fishing boat sailing on a rough sea. In the background, we can see a lighthouse on a rocky coast.
Very fine quality of execution, nicely nuanced colors, with touches of light illuminating the sails and the lighthouse. Signed lower left by the great painter, Jules NOEL, and dated 1876.
Jules NOEL (1810 - 1881)
The painter, well known to lovers of Le Tréport for having painted a dozen works depicting various scenes from the daily life of sailors, as well as several views of Le Tréport. Born in Nancy, his father taught him the basics of drawing. After a career as a drawing teacher, he became an artist and is considered the precursor of Impressionism. He specialized in two themes: landscapes and seascapes. The painter was inspired by Le Tréport from 1866 to 1879. Many national museums hold works by Jules Noël, including the Musée du Louvre, the National Maritime Museum in London, the Musée du Château de Versailles, the Musée de Dieppe, etc.
This painting appears to depict the Normandy coast, probably Le Tréport. The lighthouse and buildings are typical of this coastal region. This Painting in its Richly Decorated Gilded Wood Frame Adds an Extra Touch of Elegance to it.
