SZULMAN (François), painter born in Paris on June 05, 1931 (Ec. Fr.) Just after the Second World War, he was admitted to the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris. He abandoned his artistic studies to help support his family, but soon returned to painting as a professional. From 1951 onwards, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, then at other equally renowned salons such as the Salon d'Automne, the Peintres Témoins de leurs Temps, the Nationale des Beaux-Arts, etc. His first solo show took place in 1967 at the Régis Langlois gallery in Paris. It was a success, and the craze for his work continued to grow among art lovers and collectors.
A landscape painter, he draws his themes from everyday life. His deceptively naïve style has enabled him to distinguish himself with a singular painting style, less figurative than it may appear, in a thick paste that can evoke enamels.
This very fine work, an oil on canvas from the 1970s, entitled "Les bateaux de pêche" ("Fishing Boats") depicts a lively harbor view at low tide.
