Biography :
Fernand LAVAL 1886 / 1966
Fernand Laval arrived in Paris in 1912, where he befriended Maurice Utrillo
and roamed the streets of Montmartre with his easel. In 1913, he married Rachel Cohenet and in 1920 made his first appearance at the Salon d'Automne, where he presented a painting entitled "De Montmartre aux Halles".
He also worked abroad, notably in the Netherlands, painting numerous windmills in 1927-28, and traveled to Belgium, where he painted the port of Antwerp.
In 1963, as a tribute to Renoir, he painted Renoir's house "La Collette" in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
His favorite subjects will always be the heart of Paris, Montmartre, including the Sacré-Coeur, the suburbs of Paris, the old fortifications and the Canal St Martin.
His latest works are in dark tones of browns, earths and blacks.
