Initially a history painter, Felipe Maso presented Une Procession de Saint-Barthélemy (1884, Musée Maricel) at the 1884 Paris Salon, which won a prize and is considered a founding work of the Sitges luminist school.
Married to a Russian princess in 1889, he lived in the south of France between Sitges, San Remo, Monte Carlo and Lourdes.
Maso's works can be seen at the Museu Maricel in Sitges, the library of the Museu Víctor Balaguer in Vilanova i la Geltrú, the Museu de l'Empordà in Figueres, the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) and in Madrid.
