A pupil of Bertin, he appeared at the Salon from 1812 to 1857. As a painter of historical landscapes, Régnier Auguste Jacques was at one time a great man. He obtained official commissions, painting the chapel of St Denis and St Roch, and working on the decoration of the Fontainebleau palace.
