A landscape painter who studied with Watelet and Hersent at the Eocle des Beaux Arts in Paris, where he entered in 1831, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1833. He won medals in 1841, 1861 and 1863.
A founding member of the Taylo Association, he was for many years chairman of the society's accounts committee.
His canvases have the spontaneity of payages painted from nature without retouching.
