    Maurice Chabas (1862-1947) was a French Symbolist painter.a student at the Beaux Arts de Nantes school,he enrolled at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1883,with his brother Paul,who was also an artist.a prolific artist,both an easel painter and a painter of monumental art.he began his career at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1885,where he exhibited his paintings until 1913.At the same time, he created monumental works for town halls and railway stations.A sensitive and mystical artist, after 1914 he moved towards stylistic simplification, subject to spiritual and cosmic thought, which led to total abstraction from 1920 onwards.
