Biography of Albert Horel (1876 - 1964):
Landscape painter and Orientalist born in Aubevoye (Eure) in 1876, he died in Paris in 1964.
A pupil of Victor Prouvé and Friant, he attended the Arts Décoratifs de Paris. He worked for many years in Lorraine, living in Laître-sous-Amance (54). He settled in Paris after the war. He painted mainly landscapes and, after a stay in Morocco, brought back many views of Moroccan towns, hence his classification as an "Orientalist" painter. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants from 1909 to 1930. At the Salon de Nancy, he exhibited, notably in 1908: Amance, vue du pays, Laître au soleil couchant... in 1909 and 1911: Construction du Théâtre de Nancy, Chambre du Téméraire au Palais Ducal de Nancy, in 1913, two paintings and in 1920, views of Metz and Strasbourg. He was associated with Eugène Corbin, who acquired a number of his works.
