Very good condition, sold unframed.
A painter from Marseilles, Antoine Ponchin came from a family of artists.
Throughout his life, he nurtured a deep attachment to the south, transcribing the light and atmosphere of his native Provence,
striving to capture its nuances.
His work is characterized by research into the effects of light on the landscape, and by a
a reflection on color, with skilfully crafted cameos.
The palette in this painting, for example, is a highly unusual cameo of brown shaded with pink.
Driven by a taste for travel, he went in search of new landscapes and atmospheres in other countries, particularly Indochina.
In the autumn of his life, at the end of the 20s, Antoine Ponchin decided to return to his native region to once again bring the lights of his Provence to life on canvas.
