Biography:
Pierre Le Trividic was born in Rouen in 1898. He enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in the Architecture section. A brilliant student, he quickly won first prizes in all disciplines. He quickly developed a passion for line and color, drawing and painting. Pencil, pastel, oil, watercolor, ink, etching and sanguine became his means of expressing this passion for his native city.
Indeed, his work is nothing less than a day-by-day history of Rouen over the nearly forty years of his career.
The artist is complete, his work extraodinarily abundant, equalled only by his freedom of execution.
His early, solidly constructed canvases were soon followed by a firmer technique. His qualities become concentrated. Le Trividic synthesizes and each of his works gains in expressive power. Recognition became official in 1931, when the French government bought him a Cathédrale de Rouen. A little later, the city of Paris bought him a panorama of the Norman capital. In the 30s, Le Trividic also began a career as an illustrator, which he pursued until the end of his life.
Much in demand in his hometown, the artist virtually never left Rouen. He died in 1960. His works are represented in numerous museums.
