This oil on panel by Coran d'Ys depicts a church in Brittany with a river in the foreground.
Victorien Harel known as Coran d’Ys (1877-1954) painted Breton landscapes, most often in the form of gouaches and watercolors with fine lines and a Japanese style. Coran d’Ys was interested in the seabed and was part of the realist movement that began in painting in 1930. In 1935, the French Navy commissioned wall panels from him for the destroyers Le Fantasque and Le Chacal.
