This oil on panel by Coran d'Ys depicts a church in Brittany with a stream in the foreground.
Victorien Harel, known as Coran d'Ys (1877-1954), painted Breton landscapes, mostly in the form of gouaches and watercolors with fine lines and a Japanese style. Coran d'Ys was interested in the underwater world and was part of the realist movement that began in painting in 1930. In 1935, he was commissioned by the French Navy to paint wall panels for the destroyers Le Fantasque and Le Chacal.
The work is of high quality, particularly in the reflections. Please note that this work is being sold unrestored and uncleaned, with minor traces of wear and rubbing. However, it remains in a good state of preservation.
