Oil on canvas by British painter Alan Simpson (1941-2007).
A member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Simpson is known for his works inspired mainly by the ports of southern England, where he lived.
This oil on canvas depicts one of these ports. It shows a small fisherman's hut at the end of a pontoon where boats are moored.
The canvas is set off by a gilded frame molded with a frieze of acanthus leaves around the perimeter.
