Original oil on original canvas, signed lower right, dated 1966, countersigned and titled on the reverse.
Very beautiful and large representation of a river landscape in the town of Melun located in the department of Seine et Marne in the Ile-de-France region. A small boat moored to the bank of a river or river arm, surrounded by various dwellings (left and center upwards) as well as a probable landscaped park (right). A scene also animated by 2 characters who can be seen on the right bank, in the shade of a tree. Note the presence of a hill located at the bottom at the top; could it be the Saint-Liesne hill ?
The painter's pictorial style is here very typical of that found in the works of the 1950s/1960s (works of the same style), made up of more frank colors and more marked contrasts than those that the artist will use from around the mid-1970s. Very pretty painting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born October 17, 1929 in Gouy-sous-bellone, Maurice LEMAÎTRE is a painter belonging to the post-impressionist movement. His first exhibition in his village hall dates back to 1945 when he was not yet 16 years old. A landscape painter in France, he set up his easel in many regions and most often where the Impressionists had preceded him: in Seine-et-Marne, Moret-sur-Loing, Auvers-sur-Oise, in Brittany and Normandy, Vendée, Brière, Lot, Nord and Pas-de-Calais.
He exhibits regularly in Paris, at the Salons of French Artists of which he is a member, at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants and in Barbizon, Melun, Versailles, Nogent, Douai, Le Touquet, etc...
His first personal exhibitions date from 1963-1966, notably at the Ror-Volmar and Welter galleries in Paris. In 1978, he exhibited at the "Galerie des Orfèvres" (Paris) and continued, every 2 years, with a personal exhibition at the "Galerie Triade" (Barbizon).
He also exhibited for 20 years at the Galerie Art-Mel du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré in Paris.
Maurice LEMAÎTRE was invited to exhibit in the United States, in New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Detroit, in Spain, in Geneva, in Tokyo as well as in Russia, at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and at the Hermitage Museum in Saint PETERSBOURG.
