About the artist :
For over two decades, figures and landscapes have formed his pictorial vocabulary. A return to figuration, after an interlude of non-figuration, without ever denying the subject. A homogeneous body of work that shows continuity: continuity of line that favors the curve, continuity of palette, sensitivity to the colors and rhythms of a landscape.

A short history of pastel :
Began to be used in France in the 15th century. As a complement to drawing (highlights).
Its use spread, and in the 17th century it established itself as an independent technique perfectly suited to portraits (velvety, skin tone rendering).
Colored pencil sticks made from pulverized colors and ground white earth, amalgamated with gum arabic, sometimes honey and glue, then shaped into small sticks and set to dry.
A more recent invention is oil pastel, with its powerful coloring power, greater coverage and smooth, glossy texture.
In the 19th century, its use extended beyond portraiture: landscapes by Delacroix and Millet, the beach series by Degas - who unleashed all his boldness and inventiveness through the use of "wet" pastel - and Symbolist artists also found it a tool
adapted to their visions.
Closer to home, artists such as Pablo Picasso, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, Wilfredo Lam and Jean-Michel Atlan have exploited this technique for its brilliant colors bursting forth on the white background of the paper. Just as pastels catch the paper, they catch the light.
