A pupil of Harpignies, Jacques Odier was a Swiss painter who exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris at the end of the 19th century. In 1889, he won a bronze medal at the Universal Exhibition. Initially close to the realistic style of Harpignies, as in our painting, Odier later evolved towards a more modern style and colors.
