    Joseph Jules BAHANS
    Bordeaux, 1834 - Bordeaux, 1856
    Normandy, village of stonecutters, landscape
    Painting, oil on canvas
Signed and dated lower left (discreet): "Jh. Jules Bahans 1855".
    Painting: 84 x 53 cm
Fine original frame: 106 x 74 cm (attention large format)
Very good condition, minor restorations (see back)
Note: Joseph Jules Bahans' family traded in Rouennerie in Bordeaux (fabric mainly manufactured in Rouen and Yvetot). Bahans undoubtedly painted this picture on a business trip to supply his family. The landscape depicts a village whose main activity is quarrying stone. The sharp contrast between light and shadow creates a mysterious shadow.
