Born in Marseille, this painter of the Provençal school frequented “the painters of Péano” so named in reference to the café on rue Fortia where the post-war Provençal masters met. Arsène Sari (1895-1995), Pierre Ambrogiani (1907-1985) and Eugène Baboulène (1905-1994) meet there. Very attached to the landscapes of his native country, Hubert Aicardi paints the stony landscapes, the rocks along the Mediterranean and their indolent, warm and peaceful atmosphere.
Hubert Aicardi is the author of several illustrations including that of L'Anneau des mers by the writer Edouard Peisson published in 1952 by Flammarion. Since the 1970s, the Marseille Jouvène Gallery has devoted several monographic exhibitions to this painter.
