Listed : Artprice, Akoun and numerous various others
    Reference Code : 19HST40M-HJ.PAUWELS

    DETAILS
Large original oil on original canvas, signed lower right.
Very beautiful and imposing representation of a countryside landscape, Belgian or Dutch, with its houses with "orange" roofs, its small pond in the foreground and its mill, towards the back of the work. Although the sky appears somewhat cloudy, signifying the changeable weather at the moment, the sun's rays nevertheless manage to hit the ground and partially "line" the walls and roofs of the houses. The work on light and contrasts is remarkable and the "blur" of the background is no less so. A perfectly executed painting !

    DIMENSIONS : Unframed : 60,5 x 100,3 cm - Framed : 72,3 x 5,5 x 112,2 cm

PROVENANCE : Recognized french public auction house (from private collection).

    CONDITION
Painting : Excellent overall condition. Yellowing of the varnish in places (sky) and a few rare small stains (a little cleaning would be welcome).
Frame : Molded wooden frame, black and gilt, in good overall condition (age wear marks, small lacks at the level of the protruding parts and in the corners). Some lack of wood on the back of the frame.

    ABOUT THE ARTIST
Henri Joseph PAUWELS was born in 1903 in Haasdonk, Belgium. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, where he was trained in the classical academic tradition. He also worked with the Ghent painter Jules de Sutter.
From the beginning of his career, Henri Joseph PAUWELS was very influenced by the landscapes of his native region, the Waasland, of which he painted many landscapes throughout his life.

He produced portraits of local personalities as well as portraits of family members and friends. He also painted still lifes, most often characterized by great attention to detail and an atmosphere of calm and serenity. They most frequently represent simple objects such as fruits, flowers or kitchen utensils.
Henri Joseph PAUWELS was a member of various artistic associations including the group "Vie et Lumière" and the circle of "Friends of art".
