    Group of four French paintings from the late 19th century.

    The scenes represent a moment of leisure for the French aristocracy in the second half of the 19th century.

    The composition of the scene is occupied by various characters depicted in open country amidst architectural ruins, caught up in a cheerful image of everyday life animated by the carefree joie de vivre typical of the frivolous, worldly aristocracy.

    Our paintings are inspired by "scènes galantes", a pictorial theme that has become so predominant in European pictorial culture since the first decades of the 18th century that it almost has the dignity of a pictorial genre.

    It reflects the modus vivendi of high society at the time, accustomed to the pleasures of life, the comforts of courtly well-being, between entertainments, caprices and various delights.

    The clothes are those of the 18th-century tradition, even if the painting was produced in the second half of the 19th century in an almost nostalgic manner.
