Biography:
Born in Lille in 1892, he was a student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Mobilized in 1914, taken prisoner in the Baltic, he rejoined his family, who had taken refuge in Marseille after the war. Love at first sight for the city was immediate.
He settled in Sausset les Pins and began painting seascapes. He exhibited in Marseille at the Moullot and Jouvène galleries.
His success aroused the jealousy of local artists; he suffered but ignored them. His favorite subjects are "barques aux Martigues", tartanes in the Vieux Port, bastide landscapes and multicolored bouquets.
After 1945, he moved to the top floor of a building on rue de Rome, where his studio overlooks the port opposite Notre Dame de La Garde. For more than fifty years, he painted in full paste and with a knife, for a clientele that remained loyal and attached to him.
