Jan van Bloemenn born in Antwerp in 1662, died in Rome in 1749 was a Flemish painter of the Baroque period best known for his landscape compositions.
Our painting represents an imaginary view of the Italian countryside near Rome where the painter stayed all his life.
The painting is very fine, the trees and foliage are delicately painted, the composition is typical of the period, a gap in the foliage which draws the eye to a ruin and a luminous sky.
