André Émile Planson was a French painter born in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre on April 10, 1898 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on September 29, 1981. With a group of friends, the painters Brianchon, Cavaillès, Legeult and Oudot, he created an informal movement, the Painters of Poetic Reality. Bright, cheerful colors inspired by the Fauves, broad, bold strokes, an inspiration full of joy and optimism. Success was immediate, and André Planson painted with joy, far from Art Deco stylization and, above all, devoid of intellectual or committed intentions. In 1937 commissioned for the Palais de Chaillot, in 1938 for the Venice Biennale. After the war, his success continued, with major private and public commissions. He took part in the decoration of ocean liners from 1952 to 1966.
Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1960.

A museum dedicated to his work opened in 2010 in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre.
