    Note :

Albert Pépin was a painter and illustrator. He was the childhood friend of Pierre Gabriel Edouard BONVALOT (Spain, 1853 - Paris, 1933), one of the greatest French explorers of the 19th century, known for his travels in Central Asia and Tibet as well as for the works that he wrote about his travels. Between 1880 and 1890, he explored many regions of Central Asia. During his third trip in 1886, he left with Guillaume Capus, botanist and ethnologist, and Albert Pépin, draftsman, the author of our painting. They will go as far as Afghanistan. It is therefore an authentic testimony to the life of populations and landscapes very rarely painted at that time.
