Serge Hélias, painter and professor at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, settled in Clermont-Ferrand in 1973, where he established himself as a major figure in Clermont-Ferrand cultural life. He was a curator of contemporary art exhibitions, director of the Clermont-Ferrand School of Fine Arts which he directed until 1992 and from which many heirs or disciples will emerge.
