SUPERB HISTORICAL WORK BY THIS FINE DOMINICAN ARTIST. 100X73CM DATED58.
    RARE WORK ON THE MARKET.
HIS TRAINING AS A SCULPTOR IS VERY PERCEPTIBLE IN THE ACCURATE TREATMENT OF VOLUMES!

Dominican painter and sculptor, born in San Pedro de Macorís in 1928. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts, where he later taught. In 1946, he won the Prix de la Biennale de Santo Domingo. He held two exhibitions in 1950. In 1952, he was awarded a scholarship to study in Paris. In the following years 1953-54 at the Salon d'Automne, in 1957 at Réalités Nouvelles, in 1958 at Comparaison, Paris.

In 1959, he won First Prize at the 1st. Biennale de Paris. In the 1960s, he held several exhibitions in Europe, including the Salon Mai in Paris, the Morton Gallery in London, d'Henndt in Amsterdam and Le Petit Bronze in Paris. From 1963 to 1973, he exhibited consecutively at the Salon de la Jeune Sculpture in Paris, France. In 1956, he won fourth prize at the Biennale de Paris, and in 1969, he had a permanent exhibition of his work at the Musée de
    Art Moderne de Paris.

In 1966, he exhibited in Canada. At the end of the decade, he returned to his homeland and exhibited at the Beaux-Arts. In the 1970s, he exhibited in Scandinavia and at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris, winning the Biennale's Premier Prix.

de Saint-Domingue with Abstract Lady1972, at the Salon de Mars Saint-Agustin in Paris, at the Expo-contemporaine de sculpture française de Nouvelle-Zélande, Australie, Mexique et du Venezuela, organized by Denys Chevalier. In 1974, he won first prize at the Santo Domingo Biennial, exhibited at the Salon des Jeunes Sculptures, Artistes Latino-américains in Paris and benefited from purchases by the French government. In 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978, he exhibited ten times individually in Paris and took part in the Première Triennale européenne de sculpture in Paris, in the 38th. After the Congrès C/DT Brest at the Salon des Grands Jeunes d'Aujourd'hui in Paris, he returned to his homeland and exhibited individually at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Santo Domingo.

From 1981 to 1983, he exhibited again in his country, at the Museum of Modern Art and at Altos de Chavón. This artist's sculptural work supports a spatial architecture of planes, volumes and forms. Much of his work is linked to the most innovative currents. He draws on African and West Indian magic-fantasy.

Stimulating forms in their contained strength are part of the imagery and technicality with which the artist models matter, in his symbiosis of creation and perfect execution.
