Beautiful provenance for this work. Exhibition label on the back, dated 57. The artist is part of the abstract landscape movement.
He came from a fine French family, republican and secular, romantic and intellectual, with a father who taught French, history and geography, and a maternal grandfather who mastered the Latin and Greek he had learned with the Jesuits at the end of the 19th century, and who immigrated to Egypt. Cabus's novel begins on January 21, 1928 in Alexandria. The Cabus family's return to France took place on the eve of the Second World War, in the early 1950s. Sharing a maid's room in Paris with his first wife, herself a layout artist and graphic designer, he led a hard bohemian life, dividing his time between Paris and Les Baux-de-Provence, where he painted for five years. There, he met Louis Jou, a prestigious Spanish painter-engraver and typographer, friend of the great model Kiki de Montparnasse. He returned to Meudon, where he painted large formats. During this period, he was noticed by the painter Vieira da Silva. Through her intermediary, he exhibited at the Galerie Pierre Loeb, where he signed a contract with other famous artists such as Kallos, Macris, Dufour and Georges Romathier.
