Gabriel Godard is a painter (figurative then abstract), he began painting in 1950.

From 1986, he definitively turned away from figurative painting for abstraction, the subject becoming in his eyes only a simple pretext for a more ambitious composition. His abstract painting is then characterized by a subtle framing between light and form, creating a deep rhythm with a contrasting and strong palette.

His works were well received from his early years as a painter, and several French museums acquired his works such as the Centre Pompidou and the Musée des Arts Modernes in Paris.
