He was a major exponent of French abstract painting in the 50s. His work soon gained international recognition (exhibited at René drouin as early as 1955, then at the major New York dealer Leo Castelli in 1956.
He exhibited his work at major art events, including Documenta 2 in Cassel in 2959 and the Paris Biennale on several occasions in the 50s and 60s.
In 1981, he took part in the "Paris Paris" exhibition at the Centre Pompidou.
