Carl Walter Liner (born August 17, 1914 in St. Gallen, died April 19, 1997 in his hometown) was a Swiss painter.
Son of the famous Carl August Liner, whose disciple he quickly became, his youth was marked by numerous trips to Egypt, France, Algeria, Spain, Italy and Corsica. He divided his working life between his studios in Paris, Fontvieille (Provence) and Appenzell (Switzerland).
His encounters or friendships with Vlaminck, Braque, and above all Zadkine, Schneider and Erich Heckel influenced his work: large abstract canvases, yet imbued with figuratism and brimming with movement around an intense balance. Carl Walter Liner's work has been exhibited mainly in Switzerland, Germany, France and the United States.
