Vanity mirror in Parisian varnish from the Louis XV period, rectangular in shape, the top scalloped. The frame entirely lacquered with floral and sinister motifs. Two young Chinese are represented on the sides and are most certainly inspired by the work of the painter Jean-Baptiste Pillement (1728-1808) and more precisely by one of the "Allegories of the twelve months of the year". The mercury mirror and the bottom are original.
-This toilet mirror is a very beautiful testimony to these interior scenes often represented by painters like Chardin (1699-1769) or Guillaume Voiriot (1713-1799).
-Frame and background in fruit wood (most certainly pear tree), mercury mirror, preparation, light gray lacquer turned green under the effect of yellowing, decoration in varnished-polished oil paint.
-Paris, circa 1770.
-This mirror is presented in its own juice with some gaps in the decor. Note, two small reinforcing brackets on the reverse.
