Large Louis XIV period carved and gilded wood mirror with parecloses. Large-format, richly carved and gilded wood-framed mirror with mercury-glass parecloses. The exquisitely executed decoration features foliate scrolls, volutes and flowers, punctuated at the corners by stylized shell motifs. The pediment, with its broken arch, is centered on a large bearded mascaron with acanthus leaf hair, framed by floral garlands and topped by a crown of feathers. The entire piece rests on an original wooden structure, the back of which is composed of horizontal boards assembled with tenons and dowels. The decorative elements, typical of the late 17th century, testify to the virtuosity of ornamental carvers during the reign of Louis XIV.
