SHIELD
Germany, 19th century
Steel
Diameter: 50 cm
(slight old damage to the border)

Steel roundel shield engraved with two concentric friezes, centered around a tapered umbo, with three sides engraved with scrolls and a round medallion, enlivened by the double-headed Roman heraldic eagle. It clasps a thunderbolt and a globe in each of its paws.
The middle frieze features cartouches enlivened by trophies of arms and medallion portraits of kings, emperors, and knights in armor. Finally, the last is richly decorated with a lively pattern of flowers and foliage scrolls. The border is worked with a hatched oblique pattern. The curved front is adorned with protruding rivets, and the reverse features a handle.
