Scottish KNIFE called DIRK.
Scottish work, early 20th century.
Steel, wood, silver, skin, glass and brass
Total length: 47cm; Length of the knife: 43cm; Blade length: 29.5cm
Straight blade, with one and a half cutting edges, polished finish; honeycombed back with double grooves.
The wooden handle carved with intertwined knots is organized around two silver mounts. The first is a rectangular section ring, the second forms a pommel made by a large silver ring finished with a pale pink glass cabochon.
The black skin scabbard is punctuated by two compartments hiding a short knife and a two-pronged fork. The handles are in carved wood, they have a silver pommel and a pale pink glass cabochon. The fork and the cofferdam have a safety spring. These boxes are decorated with silver inserts cut and engraved with foliage. The upper part of the scabbard bears a finely crafted coat of arms; two bail rings are arranged on the reverse. The bouterolle is engraved afterwards and ends with a button dart.
The term "dirk" means dagger in English. This knife was intended for an officer. It was worn inside the kilt, hanging from the belt.
Very good condition.
