Omani 'Saidi' Sa'idiyyah Khanjar or 'Royal' Style Khanjar. Late 19th or early 20th century.
Named after one of the Persian rulers of Oman, Sayyid Said bin Sultan (1806-1856), whose wife, according to myth, fashioned a new design for it because she was bored with the traditional dagger shape. Our example has a 19 cm curved, double-edged blade with a central rib. The scabbard is leather-wrapped and silver-wire-wrapped wood, with silver wire plates. The scabbard has seven linked silver rings. The hilt is set with classic Saidi silver filigree work, beaded wire, and silver rosettes. The overall length is 31 cm. In good overall condition. Some minimal wear.
