Korambi KNIFE, also called Lawi Ayam
    Sumatra, Indonesia circa 1900
    Steel and wood
Total length: 29.5; Length of stylus: 29 cm
Blade length: 18.4; Heel width: 2.1 cm
    (restoration to scabbard)

This Koerambe features a curved, single-edged blade made of pamor, and a wooden handle that extends from the blade and is pierced in the center to improve the user's grip. In effect, the thumb was slid in and the dagger used pointed upwards.
The wooden scabbard is incised with semicircles, stylized leafy motifs and two circular openings - all reminiscent of a creature whose tail would be the engraved end of the scabbard.
