    HACHE
    Eastern Europe, 15th - 16th century
Wrought iron, wood, silver and brass
    Length : 55,5 ; L. : 13,5 cm
    (old missing)

The axe iron can be dated to the 15th or 16th century and its style determines it as coming from the Eastern countries, possibly Germany. It is crescent-shaped, punched with six small triangles constituting a seventh large triangle, its eye is circular, the neck is inlaid with three horizontal brass bands.
The iron was probably reassembled in the 17th or 18th century in central Europe on a round wooden handle, finely inlaid with silver nails so as to present a decoration in two friezes of flowers.
One can see a hole in the handle for a strap to be slipped through.
