The limestone originals, circa 1180 - 1190, come from the western portal of Notre dame de Corbeil and are now housed in the Louvre Museum, after having spent many years in the abbey church of Saint-Denis. They are columnar statues, belonging to both architecture and sculpture. They represent King Solomon clutching a book with an ornate clasp to his body, and in his right hand, he holds a short scepter with a finial; and the Queen of Sheba holding a phylactery that falls down her left flank. A fine jewel closes his bodice and his waist is marked by a coiled belt.

The originals were restored around 1860 by Villeminot under the direction of Viollet-le-Duc, who had initiated the movement to preserve endangered heritage by making casts, as exhibited in the Galerie des Moulages in the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine at Trocadéro. Our plaster models were made at the end of the 19th century in the Louvre casting workshop. Mark on base.
