Pair of 3-light sconces decorated with lyre and palmettes in chased and gilded mercury bronze. Attributable to Claude Galle, from whom we find some similarities and close models in the proportions of the arms. Late Empire or perhaps early Restoration, circa 1810.

Claude Galle (1759-1815), bronzemaker and foundry-craftsman, received his master's degree in 1786 and was active on rue Vivienne. He supplied the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne under Louis XVI, and especially under the Empire. In particular, he made deliveries for the Trianons, Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, Compiègne and the Palais des Tuileries.

Beautifully simple and elegant, with superb quality chasing and gilding in matte and glossy.

Very good overall condition, undrilled for electricity, one discreet repair to an arm.
