A rare pair of sconces known as Aux Termes de Femmes, in finely carved bronze with a fine Mercure gilding. The shafts are in the form of women's termes terminating in interlaced acanthus scrolls. The two arms of light simulating the upper limbs of women, in a foliage and grapes decoration. Slight variations in the bobèches.
Magnificent French work from the Napoleon III period circa 1850-1870 in the Louis XVI style, similar to the work of the famous silversmith Robert-Joseph Auguste (1757-1801).
A similar model from the 18th century is in the Metropolitan Museum in New York (former Wrightsman collection).
