This important and highly decorative lamp is a creation from the famous Gagneau house in Paris (signed) at 115 rue Lafayette. It consists of a covered pot of powder blue porcelain with a Louis XVI gilt bronze mount featuring finely chiseled neoclassical ornamentation.

Identical covered vases with the same blue porcelain, mounted on Louis XV or Louis XVI bronzes, are also available. Neoclassical models are perfectly similar to ours, including the following examples:

    - Christie's sale of April 7, 2009, lot 161: pair of Louis XV style covered vases, circa 1880, Collection of Count Robert de Toulouse-Lautrec.

    - Christie's sale of April 7, 2009, lot 163: pair of Louis XVI style covered pots, 19th century work, Collection of Count Robert de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Maison Gagneau in Paris was a lighting manufacturer renowned for the quality of its work throughout the 19th century, with its high-quality chiseled and gilded bronze mounts. Founded in the early 19th century, it was located at 25 rue d'Enghien, then at 115 rue Lafayette (the address corresponding to the lamp we are offering). It participated in numerous international exhibitions, winning awards in London in 1851 and in Paris in 1855. Maison Gagneau was a judge in the "art bronzes" category at the Paris Universal Exhibition in 1889.

Recent electrical installation, porcelain in perfect condition, original bronze mount with period gilding in good condition.
