Pierre Giraudon (1923-2012) was a biologist who worked in Canada from 1949, when the technique of including specimens in resin for educational purposes was being developed in the U.S.A. Pierre Giraudon immediately saw the potential applications of this technique. He returned to France in 1953, set up the "Bioplastique" company, and produced a catalog of 150 pieces for the French Ministry of Education. Recognition of his work encouraged him to explore the artistic possibilities of this technique. From 1960 to 1980, he produced resin objects, lamps and sculptures, which met with great success. Bioplastique ceased trading in 2002.
