Pair of torches
Ormolu gilded bronze

Paris, circa 1780-1790

Pair of large neoclassical torches, the circular base decorated with palmettes and strings of pearls. The shafts are tapered and feature the same motifs. The binnacles are vase-shaped. Superb Louis XVI period production, sand cast "en coquille" which is brazed (traces of which can be seen); the base part is a very fine cast iron which allows good quality chasing.

Condition report: minor wear, good preservation of original gilding, original bobèches.
