Pair of Rocaille Louis XV gilded chased bronze candlesticks 19th century

Magnificent Pair of Louis XV Rocaille style chased and gilded and engraved bronzes with two shades of matte and shiny gilding. Very fine mounting with wide screw thread. Thick, bold bronze indicating a very high level of craftsmanship and antique gilding.

Weight per torch: 1.5 Kg , A very fine, finely chased model, the particularly high bronze weight is also a measure of its quality.

Candlestick architecture : The bell-shaped base is richly molded with a wide groove and rests on a scalloped plate. The three-part arrangement is embellished with floral engravings. Attractive, thick, wide shaft with baluster-shaped shower foot, richly molded with acanthus leaves and shells. The upper part features a shower foot with laid palmettes and an attractive molded and engraved three-part leaf spigot, accompanied by a beautiful hollow basin spout with acanthus leaf outline.

The traditional design of the candlestick is here completely transformed by the search for dynamism and contrast. Starting from the asymmetrical base, a spiral movement envelops the object, accentuated by the opposition between ascending and descending elements. Opposing forces seem to clash, shuddering through the bronze in a vigorous, permanent counter-movement.

Condition report: Very good condition, with its superb original two-tone gilding with matte and gloss. Traces of use and age. Very decorative.
