The vigor of the movement and the vitality of the curves admirably capture the trance that grips the Maenads while the Dionysian festivals are in full swing. One carries the thyrsus, the other the tambourine. Both hold above their heads the gilded bronze bin which forms the candlestick. The gilded bronze base bears the Alfred Daubrée (1817 - 1885) goldsmith's mark surmounted by a flower or a four-leaf clover. The ensemble is in perfect condition.
