Pair of Louis XIV finely chased gilt bronze candlesticks, octagonal socket, shaft and base, base with canted sides, hallmarked with C Couronné*, late 17th-18th century.
These candlesticks are in good condition. They were stamped in the mid-18th century with the C Couronné on the foot and binet (under Louis XV).
Please note: they will need to be cleaned, as they are subject to minor knocks and wear, see photos.
*the crowned C
Conceived under Louis XV as a tax mark, the crowned C also became for collectors a mark of quality and date: used between 1745 and 1749, it seems to have been inscribed only on the most refined bronzes.
