A pair of quiver-shaped candlesticks, the shaft on one side, the spigot in a gadrooned vase. Bronze with patina and mercury gilding, Empire period, early 19th century, circa 1806-1808.
Our pair of candlesticks is a close variant of a model designed by Ravrio around 1808 and supplied in several examples to the Imperial furniture for the Château de Fontainebleau. There are a few differences in the terrace moldings, but the identical line and the quality of the finishing allow us to attribute them to Ravrio.
André Antoine Ravrio (1759-1814), along with Thomire and Claude Galle, was one of the greatest bronze-makers of the Empire, and supplier to Emperor Napoleon I.
A very elegant, quality model, they are composed of 9 independent pieces (the more, the higher the quality), gilded with fine gold (mercury gilding). Beautiful, sober and finely chiseled decoration. They are in very good condition, with no missing parts, no distortion, and the gilding and patina still present but slightly reduced.
Height: 26.5cm
